Asparagus officinalis Seeds ''Mary Washington''

Price for Package of 10 seeds.

This is open-pollinated. Large spears are not – stringy and if cut at the right time has a tender flavor. Sow 12 – 18cm deep with a spacing of 35cm apart. Harvest when spears are 10 – 20cm tall by breaking off at soil level. Asparagus is a valuable investment in the long term vegetable garden. It is an attractive fernlike perennial that can produce fresh tasty spears for over 20 years if the beds are well-maintained.

Asparagus prefers sandy soils but the right preparation will perform very well in heavier clays. Asparagus adores seaweed and mineral fertilizers in the early spring as the spears begin to emerge.
