🍃 Papaya (Carica papaya L.) is a tropical fruit known for its sweet, musky taste and soft, butter-like texture. Once considered exotic, it is now widely available in markets throughout the year, with seasonal peaks in early summer and fall. Papaya fruits are rich in vitamins A, B, and C and are spherical or pear-shaped, averaging about 7 inches long and weighing around 1 pound. The flesh is a rich orange color with yellow or pink hues, and the black seeds inside are edible, though somewhat peppery and bitter.
Papaya trees are fast-growing and typically start flowering when about 1 metre tall. Plants can be male, female, or bisexual, and fruit is only produced by female or bisexual trees. Male plants are needed in small numbers to ensure pollination. The fruit, as well as other parts of the tree, contain papain, an enzyme that aids protein digestion and is used in dietary supplements and some chewing gums.

Soil: Rich, well-draining, and fertile with plenty of organic matter.
Sunlight: Full sun, sheltered from strong winds.
Watering: Regular, ensuring soil remains moist but not waterlogged to prevent root rot.

Germination: 25–28 °C (77–82 °F), 2–4 weeks.
Propagation: Seeds only.
Care: Papayas do not transplant well; plant directly where they will grow. Thin seedlings to retain the strongest, and cull males after flowering. Fertilize regularly with balanced nutrients for optimal growth.
