The Chioggia beetroot is a traditional Italian heirloom variety, famous for its striking red-and-white concentric rings inside each globe-shaped root. Also called “Candy Stripe” or “Bull’s Eye” beetroot, it produces dark green leaves with deep red stems, all edible and slightly sweet. Chioggia is a biennial grown as an annual, easy to cultivate and rewarding for both home gardeners and small-scale growers. 🌞 Sowing and Soil Requirements

Space rows about 30 cm (1 ft) apart
Place seeds 5 cm (2 in) apart and cover lightly with soil

Germination usually occurs within 7–14 days, depending on soil moisture and temperature. For an early crop, use a poly-tunnel or cloche 🌿 to warm the soil and sow 3–4 weeks ahead.

Thin seedlings to 10–15 cm apart to allow proper root development
Keep soil evenly moist, but avoid overwatering to prevent cracking or rot
Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds
Fertilize with organic compost or balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks
Watch for aphids, leaf miners, and nematodes, and treat naturally if needed
