Verbena officinalis, commonly known as Common Vervain or Holy Herb, is a perennial herb from the Verbenaceae family. Native to Europe and now naturalized across North America, Australia, and Asia, this historic plant has been revered for centuries as a sacred and medicinal herb used by priests, healers, and poets.
Growing up to 1 meter tall, Vervain forms elegant upright stems with lobed, toothed leaves and delicate spikes of mauve-violet flowers. It thrives in lime-rich, well-drained soils and can be grown as an ornamental or medicinal plant in gardens and herb borders.
