We brought this fig from Herzegovina and we found it in the mountains in complete wilderness. Its habitat was rocky and dry, which means that it is resistant to poor soil conditions. There are also constant droughts in that part and despite the fact that the plant did not get much water, it did not bother it to grow at all. The fruits are smaller than other varieties of figs and dark purple when ripe. Although the fruits are small they are very tasty and sweet. From reliable sources, we learned that where we took it, the temperature dropped to -15C in winter.
Fig flowers are difficult to spot because they grow inside figs and such flowers are pollinated by the so-called. fig wasps, which develop in the fruits of the wild fig. The difference between a tame and a wild fig is that the tame fig blooms only with female flowers while the wild fig has female and male flowers.
Wild figs grow at an abnormal rate compared to tame ones.
