Napier grass (Cenchrus purpureus)

The price is for a package of 20 seeds.

Napier grass, elephant grass or Uganda grass, is a type of perennial tropical grass originating from African grasslands. It has little need for water and nutrients, and therefore can be planted on uncultivated land.

Historically, this wild species was primarily used for livestock grazing, more recently, however, it has been used as part of an agricultural pest control strategy. Napier grasses improve soil fertility and protect dry land from soil erosion. It is also used as a windbreak, in the production of paper pulp and more recently for the production of bio-oil, biogas and charcoal. In ideal conditions, this grass can grow up to 7-8 meters in just 4 months. It grows best when it is between 25 °C and 40°C. It stops growing when it is below 10°C. The tops that were destroyed by the frost, regenerate and grow again at the beginning of warm and humid weather. Napier grass grows from sea level up to 2000 meters above sea level.
