Turnips are a fast-growing, cool weather crop with delicious leaves and tasty roots. They like loose, moderately fertile, well-drained soil with a neutral pH range of 5.5-8.0. Like other root crops, turnips benefit from an application of rock phosphate and potassium (wood ashes). They can be grown in early spring and fall, and overwinter in mild climates.
How To Grow
Sow 0.5in (1.5cm) deep in rows 15in (40cm) apart. Thin out to 6in (15cm) apart and keep well watered in dry weather. Protect seedlings if frost is imminent.
